NIGERIA MY COUNTRY, MY PRIDE

Human beings are indeed very complex and challenging to understand, and therefore their actions are far beyond comprehension. This is more so with Nigerians. While citizens of other nations take joy and pride in being who and what they are, it is not always the case with some of our brothers and sisters. I sometimes, if not all the time, hear many Nigerians say and do things that are unimaginable about Nigeria. Some go to the lengths of destroying their Nigerian E-passport to prove a point that their hate and disappointments of Nigeria are indisputable.

Some go to extra mile of forming organisations and groups that would fight for “freedom” to be on their own, away from the Nigerian state. In most instances, at the beginning of the agitation, the vision is clear, and the focus is good. Still, along the line, either the leader becomes selfish, or the movement is hijacked by selfish politicians who are more selfish, heartless and greedy than the movement leader.

In this quest for “freedom”, many have lost their lives, livelihoods, properties, family and jobs. Unfortunately, most people were victims of circumstances and had no idea about the issues at stake, not a party to the struggle. The people that suffer these calamities are mostly not members of these movements; they do not support it nor go against the trend; they are neutral and barely trying to make ends meet and survive. All said and done; such hapless citizens suffer double jeopardy as neither the government nor the agitation groups come to their aid, a situation of O.Y.O.

I am writing this with tears in my eyes, and I am shading tears because I know the problem of this country. I understand the difficulty of this country which is also known and understood by very few who care about this country called Nigeria. The resources in this country will go round and serve every citizen if only there’s JUSTICE and FAIRNESS. This injustice done to Nigerians is orchestrated and carried out by the same Nigerians. If you’re not careful, you will get it wrong and blame one region for what is happening to the other areas. Meanwhile, no part can be shortchanged without the support, agreement, negotiation and approval of either a member or members of that region.

I think Nigerians are not asking the right questions. They’re not seeing an accurate picture of what is happening in the country.

INJUSTICE cuts across every geopolitical region and all the socio-economic components in the country; if you feel that because the North is in power, and so they take everything, have you taken time to visit this same Northern region and see whether the developmental levels that should suit your claims.

I am not here to defend anybody or any region, and I am not swayed by lies and half-truths flying all over, nor brainwashed by propaganda. My assertions are based on the facts and reality right before me. I expect these agitations to be more in the North than any other region, ostensibly because the leaders from the North have more critical questions to answer than any other leader from any other geopolitical region in the country. For example, if you do not develop other regions, at least be selfish for once. Let there be massive infrastructural development in the North to feel better when accused of always keeping power and getting 50-70% of appointments in the country.

We need leaders, not leader, and it is clear that Nigeria needs leaders, not a leader, a leader can not change this country, leaders would, a leader can not do it alone especially if the subordinates are not on the same page, not having the same vision and not patriotic.

I, therefore, call on all aggrieved groups, organisations and Nigerians home and abroad to please use our energies in solving our problems. Let us use these energies to fight our trials, let us use these energies to rewrite our story, let us use these energies to ELECT good LEADERS from our President to a ward councillor. Let us use these energies to say NO to those who used and dumped us and won’t return until another election. Let us use these energies to identify those who benefit massively from our disunity. Let us use these energies to remember those who choose to be mute and neutral for their gains alone. Let us use these energies to agree as a people to take ownership of our dear country that belongs to all of us and not just a few individuals who has turned it into their enterprise. Let us use these energies to see every Nigerian as a brother and sister, regardless of the language you speak or religion. Let us use these energies to rekindle the brotherhood and the sense of hospitality that Nigeria is noted for. Let us use these energies to get into the labour room and give every push necessary to birth a NEW NIGERIA 🇳🇬

TOGETHER WE ARE UNSTOPPABLE, AND TOGETHER WE CAN DO IT.
